Ready-to-Ship Hydro Assist Steering Gear Box – No Core Charge
$499.95
Description
Before comparing prices elsewhere, make sure you compare the real total cost.
Some companies may advertise a lower price up front, but once shipping charges, core charges, and the hassle/cost of returning your old steering box are added in, the deal may not be as good as it first looked. With this BleepinJeep ready-to-ship box, there is no core charge and no old box return headache.
Ready-to-Ship Hydro Assist Steering Gear Box – No Core Charge
Want to add hydro assist steering to your Jeep or off-road rig without pulling your box, shipping it in, waiting for the work to be done, and then reinstalling the same old steering gear?
This ready-to-ship steering gear box is already remanufactured, refreshed inside and out, ported and tapped for hydro assist, painted, and sitting on our shelf ready to go.
This is the easiest option if you want a fresh steering box set up for hydro assist without the downtime. No waiting for your box to arrive here. No waiting for us to modify it. No core charge. No need to return your old steering box. Just order it, install it, and keep your old box as a spare, sell it, rebuild it later, or toss it in the scrap pile.
Hydro assist is commonly used on off-road vehicles with larger tires, locked front axles, heavy front ends, and rigs that see rocks, trails, and technical crawling. This box gives you a clean, ready-to-install starting point for your hydro assist setup.

2003–2006 Jeep Wrangler TJ Fitment Notes
The 97-02 TJ box can also be used on 2003–2006 Jeep Wrangler TJ models that originally came with the Mercedes-style steering box, but it is not a direct bolt-in swap. Installing this Saginaw-style box into an 03–06 TJ requires modifications.
Modifications Needed for 2003–2006 TJ Models
- The frame-side steering box mounting holes may need to be modified, drilled, or clearanced to fit the earlier Saginaw-style bolt pattern.
- The steering shaft will need to be changed or modified.
- Many swaps use an earlier 1997–2002 TJ steering shaft, or the existing shaft may need to be shortened by approximately 2 inches.
- You may need to use 1997–2002-style pressure hose fittings or a compatible pressure hose setup.
- Additional fitting, spacing, grinding, or clearancing may be required depending on your Jeep and existing steering components.
Because the 2003–2006 TJ originally used a different Mercedes-style steering box, this swap should be performed by someone comfortable modifying steering components and checking fitment carefully. Steering is a critical safety system, so make sure all mounting, shaft engagement, hose routing, and hydraulic connections are correct before driving the vehicle.
If you have a 2003–2006 TJ and are not sure whether this box is right for your build, please contact us before ordering.

Ready-to-Ship Hydro Assist Steering Box FAQ
Is this steering box ready to ship?
Yes. This listing is for a steering gear box that has already been remanufactured, refreshed, painted, and ported for hydro assist. It is an off-the-shelf box that is ready to ship.
Do I need to send in my old steering box?
No. That is one of the biggest benefits of this listing. You do not need to send us your old steering box first, and you do not need to return your old steering box afterward.
Is there a core charge?
No. There is no core charge on this ready-to-ship steering gear box. You keep your old box and avoid the hassle of packaging it, shipping it, and waiting for a core refund.
Why is no core charge a big deal?
Core charges can make a steering box look cheaper than it really is. With some companies, the advertised price may seem low, but after shipping and core charges are added, the total cost can end up higher. Then you still have to deal with returning your old steering box. With this box, there is no core charge and no old box return headache.
Is this a brand-new steering box?
No. This is a remanufactured steering gear box that has been refreshed inside and out, painted, and ported for hydro assist.
Is the box already ported and tapped for hydro assist?
Yes. The steering gear box has already been ported and tapped for hydro assist. This saves you from having to drill, tap, modify, or send in your own box for the porting service.
Are the hydro assist fittings included?
Yes. The steering box will come with hydro assist fittings.
You can see the fittings here:

What else do I need for hydro assist steering?
Hydro assist requires additional components sold separately, including a hydraulic ram, hoses, ram mounting tabs or brackets, power steering fluid, and any vehicle-specific steering parts needed for your setup.

Can I buy this now and add the rest of the hydro assist system later?
Yes. This is a good option if you want your steering box already set up for hydro assist now, even if you plan to add the ram, hoses, and other components later.
How is this different from the send-in steering box service?
With the send-in service, you remove your working steering box, ship it to us, and we modify that box. With this ready-to-ship version, the box is already remanufactured, refreshed, painted, ported, and sitting on our shelf. You do not have to send your old box in first.
Does this save vehicle downtime?
Yes. Since this box is already built and ready to ship, you can avoid the extra downtime of removing your box, shipping it out, waiting for the work to be completed, and waiting for it to return.
What should I check before ordering?
Please make sure this steering gear box is correct for your vehicle and setup before ordering. If you are not sure, contact us before ordering and we will help answer your questions.
