Can you REALLY bleed your brakes by yourself without having someone sit in the driver’s seat yelling “UP… DOWN… UP… DOWN”? In this video, I test 6 different ways to bleed brakes by yourself — from dirt-cheap one-man brake bleeders to vacuum systems, reverse bleeding, a remote-controlled brake pedal pusher, and a more professional brake flushing setup.
Some of these methods are incredibly simple. Some work better than expected. And a few have quirks that can make it LOOK like there’s still air in your brake system when the problem is actually somewhere else.
We’ll look at:
• One-way valve brake bleeders
• Remote-controlled brake pedal pushers
• Hand-operated vacuum bleeders
• Air-powered vacuum bleeders
• Reverse brake bleeding
• Pressure / professional-style brake flushing systems
Along the way, I’ll show you some of the problems we ran into — including air leaking around bleeder screws, vacuum bleeders showing false bubbles, keeping the master cylinder full, and why reverse bleeding might NOT be something you want to do on an old dirty brake system. So which one-person brake bleeding method is actually worth using? Watch and decide for yourself.
**IMPORTANT:** Brake systems vary. Some ABS systems may not bleed properly using gravity or vacuum methods, and some newer vehicles require a scan tool or specific factory bleeding procedure. Always check the service manual for your vehicle.
