Do you really need a $50,000 rock crawler to tackle one of the hardest trails at Windrock—or can a $5,000 budget Jeep still get the job done?
In this video, we put the Banana Peel, our lightweight $5,000 TJ-based cart, head-to-head against the Scorpion, a fully built rear-steer rock crawler with one-ton axles, 43-inch tires, aluminum beadlocks, ORI struts, and a build cost that could easily exceed $50,000.
Both rigs take on Rattle Rock at Windrock Park, a steep, wet, boulder-filled trail that pushes even serious rock crawlers to their limits. The expensive rig is heavier, more powerful, and specifically built for terrain like this. The Banana Peel is running tiny tires, Dana 30 axles, limited ground clearance, a small ATV winch, and a fraction of the budget.
The question isn’t only which Jeep performs better. It’s whether spending ten times more is necessary to have ten times more fun.
